Led by John and Alice Coltrane’s son Ravi Coltrane and Ron Stein, Friends is dedicated to restoring the Long Island home of John and Alice Coltrane. The couple lived there for the last years of the saxophonist’s life. The home is where he composed A Love Supreme. Alice moved to San Francisco in the 1970s. The house passed through two owners with very few alterations. In 2005, local jazz aficionados organized and aided in the purchase of the home by the town of Dix Hills. It was put on the 2011 list of the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s catalog of America’s Most Endangered Historic Places.
